Beth Dubyak, President of Vincent Payment Solutions, Inc., a portfolio company of UPMC Enterprises, is a 14-year-breast cancer survivor. Beth credits her doctor for insisting she get a mammogram, even though she was only 43 at the time and had no family history of breast cancer (Beth wanted to go every other year due to cost). She urges women to keep their own health top of mind, and men to encourage the women in their lives to take care of themselves.
One way to honor breast cancer patients and survivors during October is by donating blood, as many breast cancer patients need blood and platelets during treatment. Beth recently became a donor again after she was medically cleared to do so. “Blood donation can ONLY be done by humans – you can’t manufacture blood in a factory,” says Beth.“It’s so important to do what you can for our fellow humans.”
Every whole blood donation can save up to three lives. Many cancer patients also need platelets, the blood component that helps with blood clotting.
If you have about two hours of time available, you can help by donating platelets. Find out more about the process here.
As a special thank you, participating donors will receive special BkSq discounts and giveaways.
Please make an appointment to make your donation experience faster and more convenient. Call Terri Ward at 412.354.8846 or click here and search with group code T152.
Participants between the ages of 18 and 44 will also have the opportunity to join “Be the Match,” the national registry for bone marrow donors, by completing additional paperwork and submitting a sample mouth swab.
